I agree with artistmom about the issues on poverty. Especially with the way the economy is right now. With us having to pay $4.00 for gas and jobs going overseas it is causing money problems for us all. Because of just of these two issues, the poverty level is going to increase and funding for education is going to get even harder to receive.
Education is always going to be a must in order to survive and to be a productive member in society. However with the lowering of standards in schools all across the US we are finding ourselves with kids not being able to graduate from high. So where does this leaves them. Today in class we had an open floor in where we all expressed our feeling and opinion on how and what could done to fix some of the problems that we are face with pertaining to education. Just from looking in the Columbus area we have overcrowded schools, not enough teachers, and a watered down curriculum, they take standardized test year round, but are they really necessary? The educational process has had some great changes over the years. For example the rights of the children with disabilities and the no child left behind passed by G. W. Bush, along with many others.
Because population is increasing every year it is important for kids to know about different cultures. Having diversity anywhere can be a positive. It gives us a chance to learn about others and how they live and children should be taught about diversity. Just as one of our groups said, It is alright to be different. Different is good.
To wrap it up, it is important for all of us to come together to make a difference with the educational system, to make it better, whether it is elementary, junior high, high school or college.
